An Honest Consumer Review of the Black and Decker BV6600
I bought one of these two years ago with the idea if using it to break all of our leaves down into mulch for the garden. After two years, I can say that it does work for this, if you have a small enough yard. Here’s the pro’s and con’s of using a BLACK and DECKER BV6600 High Performance Blower/Vac/Mulcher to chop leaves into mulch for your garden.
First, I should give you a little background. That way, you’ll know if this will work for your particular application. We have a 1 acre property with seven mature oak trees that drop a ton of leaves each fall. I originally planned to chop them all up with this tool each year and compost the ones that would not fit into the raised garden beds. After an entire Saturday filled with leaf chopping I gave up on that idea. Now I use this leaf vacuum just on the leaves it takes to fill up 5 raised garden beds. It works very well for this size application. But if you want to actually chop up leaves from more than 2-3 fully mature trees, you should look at something bigger.

I’d give this thing at least 4.5 out of 5 stars. It’s very good for the price, and like I mentioned above, perfect for smaller yards. The leaves compact down to a very useful mulch that is fast to break down and feed the soil. There are a few things that could be done to improve it. Like the drawstring! It tends to fly off the trash can you use to collect the leaf mulch. They could have included something a little more heavy-duty there, but then it wouldn’t be under $70 I’m sure. Another thing I noticed is that it tends to get clogged if the leaves are even a little wet. But that’s to be expected at this price point. As far as longevity goes, we have used it for two fall seasons. It’s held up really well.
